Black Forging Aogami
Konoll Black Forging Aogami
The Konoll Black Forging Aogami series combines the traditional look of a hand-forged blade with the performance of premium Aogami (Blue Steel) carbon steel. The characteristic dark "black forged" surface transitions into a finely polished edge with a distinctive hamon line that visually separates the hard core from the softer layers.
Aogami steel blade
The core is made of high-purity Aogami carbon steel, enriched with chromium and tungsten. This combination increases hardness, wear resistance, and significantly extends the life of the blade. The steel allows for an exceptionally smooth and aggressive cut with long-lasting sharpness.
Aogami is carbon steel – it requires proper care and drying after use, but the reward is extreme cutting performance and easy blade restoration on whetstones.
Blade thickness and geometry
The blade has a reinforced spine of approx. 2.5 mm, which tapers significantly towards the cutting edge (approx. 2.5 → 1.5 → 0.3 mm). Thanks to this three-phase geometry, the knife is stable, yet light and very easy to handle. The thin cutting edge minimizes resistance when cutting and allows for fast and precise work.
Handle – Ich Lacquerware
The octagonal handle is made of solid wood with a traditional Chinese lacquer finish. The surface is decorated with a luminescent shell and "eggshell" structure, which creates a striking color effect with a deep luster.
The handle is ergonomic, sturdy, and dimensionally stable. The octagonal shape is suitable for both right- and left-handed users and ensures a secure grip during longer work.
