TAIDEA Sharpening Stones are made of high quality (corundum) aluminium oxide. This material is extremely durable and sharpens to the highest possible standard. You can test the versatility of this sharpening stone not only on knives, but you can sharpen scissors, axes, razors, chisels, pocket and hunting knives. Synthetic abrasive stones are generally made of aluminum oxide. This is the same abrasive material used in oil grinding stones. The difference between the two, however, is the binder that holds the abrasive together in the stone. Water abrasive stones are softer than oil abrasive stones, allowing for faster grinding. During the grinding process, the old abrasive material is broken off and replaced with fresh sharp material. Faster grinding is clearly an advantage of water grinding stones. Another obvious advantage is the use of water rather than oil to remove metal chips from the grinding stone. However, the water grinding stone is not perfect. The softness of the grinding stone, which promotes faster grinding, results in faster wear. Wear is also uneven and requires frequent straightening of the grinding surface. Levelling stones are used for this purpose, which can be found in the sharpening accessories section.
