Product detailed description

King Water Sharpening Stone with Base JIS #220

KING G-45 is a coarse-grained water sharpening stone with a grit of #220, ideal for quickly and effectively re-sharpening blunt or damaged blades. It is among the most aggressive models of the KING brand and is designed for the stage when you need to restore the geometry of the knife or remove minor scratches and nicks. The stone is set in a solid plastic base, which is equipped with anti-slip rubber elements on the underside for maximum stability during sharpening. The main raw material used in production is aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃) – also known as corundum –, which is a highly durable abrasive material ideal for precision sharpening.

The stone includes a non-slip plastic base that ensures stability during sharpening and convenient use even on smooth surfaces. The stone is suitable for kitchen knives, chisels, planes and other tools that require rapid material removal.

You can find sharpening and whetstone maintenance accessories in the section Sharpening Accessories.

Knife sharpening course

We regularly hold knife sharpening courses for beginners, where we teach you how to sharpen stones using the traditional Japanese method.

How to Properly Sharpen Knives on a KING Sharpening Stone

1. Namočení kamene
Before sharpening, submerge the stone in water for at least a few minutes to ensure it is fully saturated. Throughout the entire process, the stone should remain damp – re-wet it whenever it starts to dry out.

2. Zajištění stability
Place the stone on a flat and stable surface. To prevent slipping, you can place it on a damp cloth, rubber mat, or paper towel.

3. Nastavení úhlu ostření
Hold the knife at an angle of approximately 15–20 degrees to the surface of the stone. This angle is ideal for most kitchen knives and ensures optimal sharpness and edge durability.

4. Sharpening itself

For single-bevel knives (e.g., some Japanese models): Sharpen mostly on one side – dedicate 90% of the time to the main side and 10% to the opposite side.

For double-bevel knives: Sharpen evenly on both sides of the blade to maintain symmetry and sharpness.

5. Odstranění otřepů
After sharpening, fine burrs may form on the edge of the blade. To remove them, hold the knife perpendicular to the stone and lightly run the entire length of the edge several times – alternating between one side and the other.

Whetstone maintenance

After sharpening, rinse the stone with clean water to remove any metal residue and allow it to air dry completely (not on a radiator).

If depressions or unevenness develop on the stone over time, level them using a flattening (flattening) stone, to maintain a smooth and even surface for future sharpening.dellinger návod na broušení nožů na kameni
