First firing

  1. Fill the grill approximately 50% with high-quality charcoal.
  2. Open the bottom vent fully.
  3. Light the charcoal.
  4. Let the grill run for 45 minutes at a temperature of 180–220 °C.
  5. Then close the bottom vents and let the grill cool down naturally.
The first firing helps remove manufacturing residues, stabilize the ceramic, and prepare the grill for regular use.

Recommended fuel

Suitable fuel Marabu, Quebracho Blanco, acacia, beech charcoal, oak charcoal, high-quality lump charcoal.
Unsuitable fuel Chemically treated briquettes, wet fuel, impregnated or varnished wood.

Lighting

  1. Open the bottom damper to 100%.
  2. Place a natural fire starter in the center of the charcoal.
  3. Light only the center of the fuel.
  4. Close the lid.
  5. Let the temperature rise gradually.

Temperature settings

Temperature Bottom vent
110–130 °C 1–2 cm
150–180 °C 2–4 cm
200–250 °C 4–6 cm
300+ °C fully open
The temperature of a ceramic grill is primarily regulated by the bottom air vent. Ceramic reacts more slowly than conventional grills, so make adjustments gradually. If you exceed the desired temperature, it may take 30–60 minutes to return to the correct level.

Recommended wood types

Smoke intensity Wood Suitable for
Mild apple, cherry, plum poultry, fish, vegetables
Medium beech, oak pork and beef
Strong hickory brisket, ribs, pulled pork
Do not use spruce, pine, or other conifers. They contain resin and are not suitable for cooking.

Recommended temperatures and cooking times

Food Temperature Time
Chicken wings 180–200 °C 35–45 min
Chicken thighs 180 °C 45–60 min
Whole chicken 180 °C 75–120 min
Burgers 220–250 °C 5–6 min
Ribeye steak 280–350 °C 4–5 min
Pizza 300–380 °C 60–120 sec
Ribs 115 °C 5–6 hrs
Pulled Pork 110–120 °C 8–12 h
Brisket 115–125 °C 8–14 h

Pizza mode

Use the deflector and pizza stone for baking pizza. Preheat the grill for 30–45 minutes to a temperature of 300–380 °C. Depending on the temperature, the pizza itself bakes for approximately 60–120 seconds.

Rocket Stove mode

Rocket Stove mode is designed for high-temperature cooking, quick searing, and the use of cast iron cookware. The temperature can exceed 400 °C.

  • wok
  • cast iron pans
  • steaks
  • cauldron cooking
  • quick searing

Fire Pit Mode

For Fire Pit Mode, use only the lower combustion chamber with the fuel grate. Hardwood or charcoal is recommended.

Do not overfill the combustion chamber above the upper edge.

Maintenance and Cleaning

After each use

  • empty the ashes
  • clean the grates
  • the grate can be lightly coated with cooking oil

Check regularly

  • the top chimney
  • the gasket
  • the screws
  • the cart and wheels

Burn-off cleaning

  1. Open the bottom vent fully.
  2. Heat the grill to 300–350 °C.
  3. Let it run for 20–30 minutes.

High temperatures help burn off grease and deposits.

Caring for the ceramic

  • Do not extinguish a hot grill with water.
  • Protect the ceramic from sudden temperature shocks.
  • In winter, heat the grill gradually.
  • At sub-freezing temperatures, do not exceed 150 °C for the first 15 minutes.
  • Use a protective cover.

Solving the Most Common Problems

Problem Possible cause
The grill won’t heat up above 180 °C clogged ash tray, damp charcoal, closed vents, insufficient fuel
Temperature drops quickly Leaky gasket, insufficient charcoal, strong wind
The grill smokes excessively Insufficient airflow, grease on the deflector, damp wood

Finishing the Grill

  1. Close the bottom vent.
  2. Let the grill burn out on its own.
The ceramic may retain residual heat for several hours after you finish grilling.

Storage

Once completely cooled, store the grill in a dry and well-ventilated place, ideally under a protective cover.

  • empty the ash tray
  • clean the grates
  • leave the bottom vent slightly open to allow moisture to escape
  • check the fasteners regularly

Recommended first grilling session

Chicken thighs

For your first experience with the grill, we recommend cooking chicken thighs at 180 °C using indirect grilling with the deflector for 45–60 minutes. You’ll quickly understand how the vents work and how the ceramic retains heat.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between a Kamado grill and a regular grill?

The ceramic Kamado grill features a solid ceramic body that perfectly retains heat and moisture. As a result, it consumes less fuel, maintains a more stable temperature, and allows not only grilling but also smoking, baking, and slow cooking.

What type of fuel is recommended?

You’ll achieve the best results with high-quality lump charcoal, such as Marabu, Quebracho Blanco, or acacia charcoal. For smoking, you can add wood chips made from oak, beech, apple, or cherry wood.

Can you make pizza on the grill?

Yes. After adding a pizza stone and preheating properly, the grill reaches temperatures of 300–380 °C. The pizza is ready in approximately 60–120 seconds and develops a characteristic crispy crust, just like from a traditional wood-fired oven.

Can the grill be used as a smoker?

Yes. Thanks to precise air control and the ceramic’s ability to maintain a stable temperature, the grill is ideal for low & slow BBQ. It can easily handle ribs, brisket, pulled pork, or whole chickens.

What is the Rocket Stove system?

The Rocket Stove is a highly efficient combustion system that utilizes optimized airflow. This allows it to reach very high temperatures while consuming less fuel than a traditional fire pit or grill.

How long do the coals last in a ceramic grill?

Depending on the set temperature, a single batch of high-quality charcoal can last several hours. During low & slow smoking, it is not uncommon to operate for 8–12 hours without refueling.

What is the maximum temperature of the grill?

In classic Kamado mode, temperatures over 350 °C can be reached. In Rocket Stove mode, the temperature can exceed 400 °C.

Is the grill suitable for year-round use?

Yes. The ceramic construction allows for trouble-free use throughout the year. During the winter months, we recommend heating the grill gradually to avoid sudden temperature changes.

How do I clean the grill?

After each use, simply empty the ashes and clean the grate. We recommend periodically performing a burn-off cleaning at 300–350 °C, which removes grease and deposits inside the grill.

Can I bake bread or pastries on the grill?

Yes. Thanks to its stable temperature and ceramic body, the grill functions similarly to a traditional oven. It’s perfect for baking bread, focaccia, baguettes, or homemade pastries.

Does the Rocket Stove package include an attachment?

Yes. The package includes a Rocket Stove attachment, which allows you to use the grill in high-temperature mode for woks, cast-iron cookware, or quick searing.

How long does it take to heat up the grill?

The grill is ready for regular grilling in about 15–20 minutes. For baking pizza, we recommend preheating for 30–45 minutes so that the ceramic and pizza stone are sufficiently heated.

Can the grill be left outside year-round?

Yes, but we recommend using a protective cover. It protects the ceramic, metal parts, and gaskets from rain, snow, and UV radiation, extending the lifespan of the entire unit.

What is the difference between direct and indirect grilling?

With direct grilling, the food is placed directly over the heat source and cooks quickly at higher temperatures. Indirect grilling uses a ceramic deflector that separates the heat from the food, allowing for slow cooking or smoking.

How many people can the grill accommodate?

The module’s grilling surface allows you to comfortably prepare food for family barbecues and larger garden parties. It can easily serve 6–12 people, depending on the type of food being prepared.
