Rubber wood, sapele and acacia
Rubber Wood is the English term for rubber tree wood. It is not rubber or a rubber-like material, but genuine natural wood. Carbonisation gives the wood a darker tone, complemented by sections of sapele and acacia.
Sapele has a warmer colour tone, while acacia is characterised by its distinctive natural grain. The combination of these three materials creates a contrasting board that is attractive not only for cutting, but also for serving bread, cheese or small snacks.
Naturally unique: colour, grain and the arrangement of individual wooden sections may vary slightly from piece to piece. These differences are not defects, but normal characteristics of natural wood.
When is a smaller cutting board most useful?
Fruit and vegetables
A practical surface for lemons, apples, tomatoes, onions, herbs and other smaller ingredients.
Breakfast and snacks
Suitable for cutting bread, cheese, cold cuts and preparing smaller portions quickly.
Serving
The contrasting appearance of the wood also makes the board suitable for serving bread, cheese or small snacks.
Use and safety
Place the board on a flat, clean and dry work surface. If it moves while cutting, place a suitable non-slip mat or a clean damp cloth underneath it.
Remove knives and ingredients from the board before carrying it. Do not leave it close to the edge of the worktop and do not handle it with wet or greasy hands.
Hygiene during food preparation
After contact with raw meat or fish, clean the board thoroughly. Before preparing food intended for direct consumption, the working surface must be clean and dry.
Caring for a wooden cutting board
Wooden cutting boards do not tolerate prolonged exposure to water or sudden temperature changes. Clean the board by hand, dry it immediately after washing and allow it to air dry so that air can circulate around both sides.
If the surface has a protective finish applied during production, it will gradually wear with regular cutting. Afterwards, use only products intended for cutting boards and surfaces that come into contact with food.
- Clean the board by hand with a soft sponge or cloth.
- Do not leave it immersed in water.
- Do not wash it in a dishwasher.
- Dry it immediately after washing and allow it to air dry.
- Do not dry it on a radiator or directly next to another heat source.
- Do not use aggressive cleaning agents, wire scourers or ordinary cooking oils, which may become rancid over time.

TÜV SÜD and SGS – material testing and kitchen use
With Dellinger wooden cutting boards, we pay attention not only to the choice of wood, construction and quality of workmanship, but also to the materials used and their behaviour when coming into contact with food.
Independent TÜV SÜD laboratory reports are available for selected samples of finished kitchen cutting boards. A sample of the adhesive used in production was also tested separately by SGS.
TÜV SÜD – laboratory testing for use in contact with food
Selected samples of kitchen cutting boards made from rubber wood and acacia wood were subjected to laboratory testing by TÜV SÜD.
The purpose of the testing stated in the laboratory reports refers to German LFGB requirements (§ 30 and 31) and Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 for materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.
The laboratory tests focused on formaldehyde migration, pentachlorophenol content, extractable lead, cadmium and mercury as well as sensory assessment of possible taste and odour transfer.
In the summaries of both TÜV SÜD reports, the tested samples achieved a PASS result in the tests performed.
| Test | Tested sample result | Requirement / recommended level |
|---|---|---|
| Specific migration of formaldehyde | < 3 mg/kg | ≤ 15 mg/kg |
| Pentachlorophenol (PCP) | < 0.05 mg/kg | ≤ 0.1 mg/kg |
| Extractable lead (Pb) | < 0.1 mg/kg | ≤ 3 mg/kg |
| Extractable cadmium (Cd) | < 0.1 mg/kg | ≤ 0.5 mg/kg |
| Extractable mercury (Hg) | < 0.1 mg/kg | ≤ 0.3 mg/kg |
| Sensory test – odour transfer | Grade 1 | recommended < 2 |
| Sensory test – taste transfer | Grade 1 | recommended < 2 |
In the sensory assessment, Grade 1 means only a just perceptible taste or odour deviation. The recommended level in the test was below Grade 2.
The results apply to the specific tested samples identified in the relevant laboratory reports.

SGS – testing for selected hazardous substances
A sample of the adhesive used in the manufacture of wooden products was also subjected to separate laboratory testing by SGS.
The laboratory tests focused in particular on:
- cadmium (Cd),
- lead (Pb),
- mercury (Hg),
- hexavalent chromium Cr(VI),
- polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs),
- polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs),
- phthalates DBP, BBP, DEHP and DIBP.
For the substances monitored, the report states the results as ND – Not Detected, meaning not detected above the applicable detection limit of the method used.
The tested sample complied with the applicable limits of RoHS (EU) 2015/863.
The SGS report relates to the specific tested adhesive sample and provides supplementary documentation for the materials used. The SGS RoHS report itself is not a standalone certification of the finished product for direct food contact.
The tested samples of finished kitchen cutting boards met the requirements of the laboratory tests performed for formaldehyde migration, pentachlorophenol, extractable heavy metals and sensory properties. The supplementary SGS report also verifies selected hazardous substances in the tested sample of the adhesive used.
Individual laboratory reports are attached to this product page, allowing you to review the test results in full.
Individual laboratory results apply to the specific tested samples described in the relevant documents.
